DanCap

Camera Capsule Endoscopy in the Routine Diagnostic Pathway for Colorectal Diseases

DanCap is a two-armed prospective clustered case-crossover randomized controlled trial researching the economical and practical possibility of incorporating camera capsule endoscopy (CCE) in clinical routine; offering a renewed approach to the diagnostic pathway of colorectal neoplasia.

In the DanCap study, 800 patients, referred for a diagnostic lower GI procedure, will be included – 400 of these patients will undergo conventional colonoscopy while the other 400 patients will be examined using CCE.

The study will provide data for the cost analysis of the CCE-based pathway compared to the traditional colonoscopy pathway based on a realistic medicine outcomes assessment.

The goal is to assess the cost effectiveness of CCE, thus enabling the implementation of an alternative pathway to colonoscopy and lessening the burden of the Danish healthcare system whilst making the procedure more comfortable for the patient.
